I get it now. Can you file a bug on sourceforge for this so it
doesn't get lost?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking for. Can you give me
maybe a more concrete example. You can now create a m3u playlist
from the web interface by queuing up the songs you want in the
playlist and then clicking on download. But I think you are asking
for a way to create a shout/icecast .pls file from a web page, is
that right?
Fairly nontechnical SliMP3 owner (can figure out how to install
ActiveState Perl and get the server to autostart on login on an
NT box, understands the concept of creating textfiles for playlists,
but would rather spend more time listening than dealing with
playlist collection) listens to Live365 quite a bit. Wants to
use the SliMP3 as a "tuner/receiver" to listen to lots of
different Live365 (or shout/icecast, or any other MP3 streaming
service) streams.
Current reality: User must find appropriate URL for Live365 station,
create text file for .pls, cut and paste URL into textfile, remembering
to massage the URL appropriately (s/stations/play).
Proposed solution: Building on your browser interface, provide a short
form interface as part of the interface that might have the following
Filename: (could be auto-generated, though)
Stream type: (*) Live365
( ) Shout/Icecast
( ) Foo
[ Add ] [ Reset ]
The user could then find the appropriate URL, fill in the form, and
have the new stream added to the streams available for playing on
the SliMP3.

That's great. Thanks.
What's the format if there are multiple items in the list? Or are
there never multiple items in the list?
I've seen other examples that do have multiple items, along with
version lines and item counts...
Good question. My understanding of Dan's code is that only the
first item is read (i.e, only File1 is read) if the entry is a URL.
Well, his code did do that, but my recent rewrite broke his code.
I'm trying to fix it, and try to do it right. :-)
This also makes practical sense, as streams typically don't have
a defined end, so having more than one in the list is counterproductive
(unless we're looking to have functionality similar to the .m3u
support, where the playlist containing multiple streams would
be treated as a browseable directory)

I'll try to make all the .pls files I come across work, and then
we'll see if any new formats come along that don't.
One feature that I'd like to see in your web code at some point
(I don't know that I'll be able to get to this) would be an easy
way to build playlists...e.g., a quick form where one could cut
and paste a URL, possibly denoting what type of stream it is for
appropriate massaging (e.g., live365 station URLs need a quick
s/stations/play in the URL before being added to a .pls file).

I don't know the format for multi-item playlist files (I'm not
including .m3u here because I assume the format is standard and
works properly here as well). Dan would be the best person to answer
that question as he added the support, but a quick check of the
groups webpage doesn't show him as a member of this list yet.

I'm cc:ing him on this.

Hi,
Cleaned up the extraneous warnings that I could, and fixed a crasher.
Cosmetic tweaks elsewhere, including a more reasonable display name
for PLS files.
(Full PLS support coming, although I'd like to have a more definitive
description of the file format.)
The format I'm using (exlusively for Live365 streams at the moment) I
%cat foo.pls
[playlist]
Title1=Bill's stream test 2
File1=http://www.live365.com/play/151753
...this will work using the patch I mailed to Dan and Dean yesterday,
which seems to have made its way to the Yahoo! Groups list as well.
Without the patch, the URL must take a different form, because of the
%cat foo2.pls
[playlist]
Title1=Bill's stream test
File1=http://166.90.148.114:11010/?
I'm still trying to figure out a good way to get the song/artist
info. There are CGIs on live365.com that'll provide the info and
are mineable, but I'm not enamoured of that approach, as I can't
find any way to determine when the information changes without
regular polling.

Hi,

Cleaned up the extraneous warnings that I could, and fixed a crasher.
Cosmetic tweaks elsewhere, including a more reasonable display name
for PLS files.

(Full PLS support coming, although I'd like to have a more definitive
description of the file format.)

Please look at the diffs file attached. (Generated with "cvs diff
-c", Daniel's suggesed "cvs diff -rupB" failed...)
